Dry particulate air compressor filters are needed to remove desiccant particles after an adsorption air dryer. They are used to remove dust and particles to prevent clogs, filtering through membrane material. This membrane acts as a gate only allowing air to pass through, whilst anything bigger gets blocked.

Coalescing Filters 

Coalescing air compressor filters capture oil, aerosols, tiny moisture droplets to prevent condensation in the system, essential for eliminating rust. The separation is a two-phase process. Smaller droplets are merged with larger ones to be removed from the filter. A re-entrainment barrier prevents droplets from re-entering the air.

Vapour Removal Filters 

Vapour removal air compressor filters remove gaseous lubricants that go through the coalescing filter. These air compressor air filters cannot be used to capture lubricant aerosols, as they saturate the filter and render it useless within hours. To avoid this damage, a coalescing filter should be used to send air through first. The adsorption process of vapour removal filters uses activated charcoal as the filtering medium.


A 0.01-micron air filter can separate residual oil and extremely small particles down to 0.01-micron. It produces air which is free from oil. Is used for the protection of a control system, pneumatics haulage, painting systems or as a post-filter for adsorption dryers.


A 1-micron filter is capable of separating particles such as liquid and oil down to 1 micron. It is normally used on air dryers as a pre-filter. 1-micron filters can prevent the deterioration of your air compressor piping, for surface treatment, on vacuum pump exhausts, on compressed air motors, and as pre-filter for air dryers.

This is dependent on multiple factors, but the industry standard rule is once a year, or every 8000 hours of operation. Some variables that may affect this include:
